Why I'm Riding
The seed was planted when I met Debbie Brubaker, Dream Ride Director extraordinaire, in the Fall of 2015. As she says, “Beautiful tour. Great People. Awesome cause."
I had hoped to do this ride in 2016 but life got in the way. Last year I was on a Pilgrimage with my daughter in Spain and Italy when the ride was scheduled. This year, not only am I riding, but my husband is as well. The fact that we have family in southern California from Santa Barbara to San Diego is icing on the cake.
I believe an active lifestyle helps keep me fit and healthy and strong and happy and vibrant. This aligns perfectly with The CA Bike Coalition, a non-profit that not only believes cycling helps us lead healthy and joyful lives but actively advocates for equitable, inclusive, and prosperous communities where cycling is safe and appreciated by everyone. What’s not to love about that?!
I’m also riding in memory of the cyclist that introduced me to Debbie. Here’s to you, Eric.
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME
I am a happily retired R.N. enjoying my free time with family and friends and our cats. Good conversation, good food and good wine make most days better. Love the water - the sites, the sounds, the smells, the tranquility.
I am also an athlete. You know, I still love saying that. I got my start at age 40 with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training marathon program and never looked back. I have since completed 35 marathons, several road and trail ultras, 10 half-iron distance triathlons, and one full Ironman (at age 50). With that said, THIS is a stretch goal for me. 5 days?? 300 miles?? I am a recreational cyclist, intimidated by hills. Looking forward to the challenge, the journey, the camaraderie.
